Using Mini Navigation in Case Tabs

A case can end up containing a lot of instances. When a tab holds that many instances, the page you scroll through to review them can get very long, and it's easy to lose track of which instance you're currently looking at. Mini navigation adds an extra layer to the left side menu of the Case Manager that shows which instance is currently in view and lets you jump straight to the one you want to see or edit.

In the Case View

Any tab in the left side menu that holds more than one instance can be expanded by clicking anywhere on the tab. This reveals a list of all instances in that tab. Only one tab can be expanded at a time: expanding another tab collapses the one that was previously open.

  • Clicking an instance in the list scrolls the page directly to that instance.
  • As you scroll through the page manually, the instance currently in view is highlighted in the list, so you always know where you are.
  • Each instance in the list shows its own count of missing fields, so you can see at a glance which instances still need attention without expanding every one of them.

Configuring Mini Navigation for a Tab

Whether a tab offers mini navigation is controlled per tab in Configuration > Layout. Open a tab's settings and look for the Show Instances in Navigation toggle, which is on by default.

  • When it's on, the tab's instances are listed in the left side menu once the tab holds more than one instance.
  • When it's off, the tab behaves like before: clicking it navigates straight to the tab instead of expanding a list.
  • Regardless of this toggle, a tab is never expandable if it only holds a single instance: with just one instance there's nothing to navigate between.
